Thanks to everyone for the comments. I was a little surprised that my wrinkly dough photo elicited so much concern, because it didn’t phase me: interestingly enough, the dough didn’t feel dried out at all.

Baking Soda, I usually use plastic wrap over my dough while it rises, but the shower cap idea is a great one!

Lina, bread–especially homemade–is one of my husband’s favorite foods, hands down, so the work that goes into making it is definitely appreciated around here. Any home cooking, for me, is really a way to nurture your loved ones with the work of your hands, but bread is such a fundamental food and yet involves so much time and effort that it really does epitomize that idea. It’s the reason I don’t bat an eye at spending hours cooking anything my family and friends might appreciate.

I really like your idea of bread as a Valentine thing… You can make any amount of complicated food or desserts, bread still is a basic thing of care and love. Great work, and gorgeous looking bread!

I was anxious following your story through text and pics…phew..happy it came out allright at the end. (Your wrinkling deflation was caused by a skin forming on the dough I think. Usually that’s caused by drying out, maybe your dough wasn’t covered enough? Try a plastic showercap next time, really, works miracles!)
